In Search of the Goddess

Featuring ancient and modern ideas of feminine beauty and power

The Olive Free Library Association is very excited to present the exhibition In Search of the Goddess showcasing the works of 34 artists focusing on idealized feminine iconography, both ancient and modern. The show, curated by Olive Library Exhibition Committee members Kathy Yacoe and Sandra Scheuer will run from March 16 through May 4, 2024 with an opening reception on Saturday, March 16 from 3 – 5 pm.

Kathy Yacoe says about this exhibition, “In this show, the goddess or archetypical feminine is portrayed in her many different manifestations. She exhibits power and strength as well as fragility and beauty. In Search of the Goddess addresses how the goddess appears in our collective conscious, in history, and in popular culture. A recurring theme is the earth goddess as the representative of nature and Mother Earth. All powerful, the goddess can also represent war and destruction. She attracts us with her alluring charms, arouses our curiosity about her powers, and tempts us with her pleasureful and unbridled nature. All the works in this curated show are by talented regional artists; there are many thoughtful and provocative entries.”

Yacoe continues, “Addressing ancient and modern ideas of feminine beauty and power, there are many representations of the goddess in this exhibition. Perhaps the most relevant for today is the ancient earth goddess. Revered and respected, she jealously guards a world in which the timeless cycles of birth, death and then rebirth are endlessly repeated. The world is circular and infinite rather than historic and linear. In this age of great change, we would do well to listen to her message.”
