In fiction and in nonfiction, a rich setting has the ability to draw readers into the world of our story and help them see the world from characters' point of view. In this workshop, we will explore ways to create rich, immersive settings. Techniques will include looking at visual sources, zooming in on details, thinking about space, and using all five senses. We will focus on historical settings as a way to sharpen our eyes, ears and vocabulary, but the skills practiced in this workshop will be appropriate for stories in all time periods. Writers in all genres are welcome! Bring a notepad or something to write on. Snow date 1/31/25.
