Tempestry
Opens November 14
The Olive Free Library Association is pleased to present Tempestry, a personal and collaborative fiber art installation. A Tempestry (or temperature tapestry) is a knitted wall hanging that shows the daily high temperatures for a specific location and year. This Tempestry was created by 130 knitters across the Mid-Hudson Library System using temperature data collected from 1895-2025 at Mohonk Mountain House, creating a powerful representation of changing temperatures over time. The exhibition runs from November 14 through December 27, 2026. Public events include an opening reception on Saturday, November 14 from 2 – 4 pm. There will be a fundraising event as part of “Tempestry”: The Olive Library Exhibition Committee members will each be donating one or more of their own works, which will be installed together on one wall in the Community Gallery and will be sold at only $100 each with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Olive Free Library, a perfect holiday gift!

The Olive Free Library has created a platform to show and sell the art of regional artists, both established and emerging. This provides art enthusiasts a way to view, appreciate, and purchase local and regional artworks. The rural town of Olive does not have a cultural center, so the library converted its spacious, light community room into a gallery space. The response from both artists and the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
